Each of the cottages at Acadia Woods has been named after another smaller outlying island off the coast of Maine.

Cranberry Cottage has been named after the Cranberry Islands. The Town of Cranberry Isles, Maine consists of Great Cranberry, Little Cranberry, Sutton, Bear, and Baker Islands. It got its name from the wild low-bush cranberries that grow throughout the islands during the autumn season.

Saddleback Summerhouse has been named after Saddleback Island. Saddleback Island is located near Stonington in a chain of islands called Merchant’s Row, a premiere sailing and kayaking destination.

Popplestone Point has been named after a beautiful cove on the eastern side of Marshall Island. Marshall Island, located south of Swan’s Island which is off the southern tip of MDI, is one of the largest undeveloped islands on America’s eastern seaboard and has features similar to Acadia, just on a smaller scale. There is a fine sand beach much like Acadia’s Sand Beach and also a rocky cove called Popplestone Cove.

Camp Tinker has been named after an island in Blue Hill Bay, just to the west of Seal Cove on MDI. The island has two primitive campsites that are popular for sea kayakers. At times, when the sandbar on the western shore is revealed at low tide, troves of sand dollars and sea glass can be found.

Swan’s Chalet has been named after Swan’s Island, a beautiful island located 6 miles off the rugged coast of Maine. In 1872, a lighthouse was built on Hockamock Head to guide boats into Burnt Coat Harbor, well known at the time as a harbor of refuge. The island can only be reached via boat, and is serviced daily by a Maine DOT ferry. It is one of the largest outlying islands and has a year-round population of about 350.

Buckle Bungalow has been named after Buckle Island which is a small island off the western shore of Swan’s Island. Buckle Harbor is a world renowned stopover place for sailboats and yachts. This serene island has something of a mystical air to it. As visitors wander the short trail on the eastern shore, they will likely notice seashells, tree bark and pine cones that are neatly arranged on a mossy tree stump or an assortment of sticks propping up a mushroom growing from the base of a tree; the perfect home for a forest gnome or fairy.

Kimball Cottage has been named after Kimball Island which is nestled off the western shore of Isle au Haut. Kimball Island is privately owned and part of the Maine Island Trail Association (MITA). In 1988, a grassroots group of sailors, boaters, paddlers, and nature lovers pioneered the idea of a water trail along the Maine coast and MITA was created.

Marshall Lodge has been named after Marshall Island. Marshall Island is south of MDI between Swan's Island and Isle au Haut. Uninhabited, it is one of the largest undeveloped islands surrounding the contiguous United States.

Enchanted Escape has been named after Enchanted Island, a tiny island located just to the south of Saddleback Island. The island is often a stopping spot for kayakers making their way along a chain of islands called Merchant’s Row. Visitors to this 5 acre gem will discover an attractive beach on its western shore, a perfect place for picnicking.

Harbor Hideaway has been named after Harbor Island, a small island that is located just off of Naskeag Point in Brooklin. Harbor and Hog island both have granite ledges that invite exploration on the eastern edge of Eggemoggin Reach. Once cleared and farmed, Hog and Harbor Islands are now covered with maturing spruce-fir forest. The only relics of its agricultural and industrial past are cellar holes.
