FAQ's
How is the internet connection?
We strive to maintain a reliable high-speed internet connection but occasional disruptions can occur. Just like anywhere else in the world, internet service may temporarily cut out. Rest assured, we will promptly notify our provider to address any issues as soon as possible.
Is there cable TV?
Each cottage is equipped with a ROKU Smart TV seamlessly connected to the internet. This setup enables you to stream services like Netflix. Please note that we do not provide Cable TV service.
How is cell phone coverage in the area?
While cell phone service has greatly improved over the years, there are still instances of dropped calls and frustrating “dead zones”. To ensure reliable communication while you’re at the property, we recommend using the “Wi-Fi calling” feature on your cell phones. This feature allows you to make voice calls and send text messages over a Wi-Fi network instead of relying solely on cellular service.
If you want to enable the Wi-Fi calling feature on your cell phone, simply search for your phone type along with “Wi-Fi calling”. A step by step guide should pop up in the search.
Can you fit more than 5 people in a cottage?
Our maximum occupancy for each cottage is 5 people. Unfortunately, we cannot accommodate more than that due to the delicate nature of septic systems and wells. Safety and comfort are our top priorities.
What is the damage deposit for and is it fully refundable?
Yes, the damage deposit is fully refundable. Upon check-in, a $500 damage deposit will be held on the credit card used to make your reservation. This serves as a security measure to cover any incidentals during your stay. Rest assured that it will be promptly released after your stay if no damage is made and the cottage is left in good condition. This is also outlined in the rental agreement signed during the booking process.
Do you allow pets?
Unfortunately, we do not permit pets of any kind on our property. However, your beloved furry companion can have their own vacation experience at Acadia Woods Kennel, which is conveniently located less than 0.6 miles away.
What items will be in my cottage when I arrive?
All cottages come stocked with essential amenities for a comfortable stay. These include toilet paper, shampoo, conditioner, body wash, laundry detergent, towels and linens. For a complete list, please check the amenities section of our listing page.
Additionally, each cottage features a fully equipped kitchen with a starter supply of paper towels, dish soap, dishwasher pods, trash bags, coffee filters, cooking spray, salt, pepper, and sugar. If you need coffee on the morning of your arrival, the Town Hill Market, conveniently located across the street, offers hot coffee, delicious baked goods and all other grocery items. If you happen to run out of propane for the grill, simply reach out for a refill tank.
Do you provide cribs, highchairs, etc.?
We have highchairs for families with small children. If you require a stroller, crib, pack-n-play, or any other baby equipment, we recommend reaching out to Acadia Baby Gear Company. They offer a convenient delivery service for rented gear.
What is expected of me before I check out of my cottage?
You are not in charge of deep cleaning the cottage before your departure as we have a cleaning crew who will be coming in. However, we kindly ask that you tidy up before you leave. Trash will need to be taken out, perishables taken with you or thrown away, and a load of laundry started. This allows our cleaning crew to clean the cottage within the short turnover period. Please also make sure that all furniture and decor are returned to its original place if moved.
Is your tap water safe to drink?
Yes. Our water comes from two deep wells and has been tested safe to drink. However, the taste may be different than what you are used to. If you have a preference, you could opt for bottled water.
Will my cottage have heat/air conditioning?
In each cottage, you’ll find a heat pump located in the living room. This heat pump serves a dual purpose: it provides air conditioning during the summer months and also functions as a heater. Additionally, there’s a fan provided in each cottage for added comfort.
Are there medical services nearby?
You’ll find two hospitals and several urgent care clinics in Bar Harbor and Ellsworth approximately 10-20 minutes away. For more specific information, please refer to the “Welcome Book” provided in each cottage.
Bugs, Spiders, Mosquitos, Ticks?
Given the natural surroundings of our cottages, it’s possible that you may encounter bugs, spiders, mosquitoes, and ticks during your stay. Mosquitoes tend to be most active during daybreak and dusk, and on cloudy, warm days. To avoid them, steer clear of areas where they tend to congregate, such as tall grass, the margins of wooded areas, or dense vegetation within heavily wooded regions. Additionally, consider avoiding dark-colored clothing, as mosquitoes and other biting flies are drawn to dark greens, browns, and black. Light-colored clothing, especially whites and yellows, is less attractive to them. Using citronella candles and applying bug spray can also help keep these pesky insects at bay.
If you venture onto wooded trails, make sure to check for ticks after your walk. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) provides valuable information on preventing tick bites. You can find their comprehensive guidance on tick safety at this link: https://www.cdc.gov/ticks/avoid/on_people.html
The State of Maine has no poisonous or deadly spiders.
Bathroom Etiquette?
Water and septic systems are crucial considerations for our cottages. We utilize a septic system to treat wastewater. These systems are sensitive, so we limit the occupancy in our cottages to match the recommended daily capacity of the septic systems. Additionally, it is vital that you avoid flushing wipes, sanitary products, or disposing of cooking grease in the toilet or sinks.
When does the Island Explorer Bus run and where do I get on?
The Island Explorer stops at the Town Hill Market, directly across the street from our driveway. Route 9 will take you directly to the Bar Harbor village green where you can access everything that Bar Harbor has to offer or connect to another bus to see all of Acadia and MDI. A copy of the Route 9 bus schedule can be found in the Welcome Book in your cottage or through the Island Explorer Website here: https://www.exploreacadia.com/
